Holiday Inn to build five-star hotel in Patna

According to a report by Pranava K Chaudhary of The Times of India, hotel chain Holiday Inn will build a five-star hotel in Patna, which will be operational by 2012. The financial bid was okayed by Infrastructural Development Authority (IDA) of Bihar recently.

Initially, three hotel chains Hyatt group, Taj and Holiday Inn had shown interest to set up the hotel. According to a government official, due to some technical reasons, Hyatt group could not be shortlisted. The IDA has finally selected the financial bid of Holiday Inn because of its highest bid of paying Rs 2.25 crore to the Bihar State Tourism Development Corporation (BSTDC) per month.

Rashmi Verma, Principal Secretary (tourism), Bihar said that the proposal would soon be put up before the state cabinet for its clearance. After cabinet approval an MoU would be signed. The local franchise of the Holiday Inn — Amrapali group has been given a contract to build the hotel.

The hotel will be set up on Beer Chand Patel Road. The nine floor (G+8) hotel will have 123 rooms (including seven luxury suites), two restaurants, one restaurant with bar, 24-hour coffee shop, gymnasium and a swimming pool on its third floor and three ball rooms each having 400 seating capacity.

The present structure of BSTDC’s office-cum-tourist bungalow is spread over 1.2 acres, which would be demolished to build the hotel under Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode. According to an official, the commercial land has been given to Holiday Inn on 90 years lease. Verma said, “We are looking for a suitable place in the city to shift the present BSTDC office.”

An official said that there are plans to set up two more five-star hotels in Bihar’s two heritage cities — Bodh Gaya and Rajgir. BSTDC’s Gautam Vihara hotel at Rajgir has 3.45 acre. Open advertisement has been invited to set up a five-star hotel at the present location of Gautam Vihara.” At Bodh Gaya, BSTDC also has two acre available in order to set up a five-star hotel on hotel Siddharth Vihara premises.
