Now Nitish Kumar in IIM-A list

Bihar has always hit headlines in the media for one or another reason. And, so its leaders. Now Laloo Prasad Yadav and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar are in news for their visits to India,s best B school, Indian Institute of Management of Ahmedabad.
Laloo has to deliver a lecture on the turn around of Indian Railways. The topic suits his present assignment as union railways minister. But the way Laloo has created media hype shows his uncanny skills of image building. He has aroused great interest among people of Ahmedabad about his lecture.
One can find people talking about his lecture in IIM. People want to know if outsiders will be allowed to listen one of the biggest crowd puller politician talking to students and faculty of elite business school.
Keeping the spirit of his political rival, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is also in the news for the same reason. He will also be addressing management crowd even at a bigger scale than Laloo. Not just IIM-A students, over 1,000 international students of 20 top business schools from Europe, the US and Far East will listen to the lecture.
IIM has sent an invitation to Kumar to address participants of a three-day programme — Participants of Confluence 2006 — to be held in November, confirmed IIM director Bakul Dholakia.

New Cure for Deadly Visceral Leishmaniasis (Kala-Azar) Approved by Government of India; Institute for OneWorld Health and Gland Pharma Limited Achieve

KalaZaar is a deadly disease by which BIHAR is mostly affected , They Dr C P Thakur , Dr T K Jha and Dr Prabhat Kumar Sinha Who worked many years and they have a detail research on this disease . This piece of NEWs can relief many doctors as well as patients .
SAN FRANCISCO & NEW DELHI, India--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sep 11, 2006 - The Institute for OneWorld Health, a nonprofit pharmaceutical company that develops medicines for neglected diseases of the developing world, today announced that the Drug-Controller General of India (DCGI) has approved Paromomycin Intramuscular (IM) Injection for the treatment of Visceral Leishmaniasis (VL), the second most deadly parasitic disease in the world following malaria.
DCGI's approval of Paromomycin IM Injection came less than three months after the submission of the drug's application, which was prepared by OneWorld Health in collaboration with the Hyderabad-based drug manufacturer Gland Pharma Limited. The application was based on data from a large Phase III multi-center, randomized and controlled clinical trial of 667 adult and pediatric patients conducted in Bihar State, India, which showed that nearly all patients (94.6%) treated with Paromomycin were cured of VL.

A 21-day course of the drug provides a safe, affordable, and effective cure for VL, locally known as kala-azar. A full course of treatment stimulates a specific, cell-mediated immune response, resulting in life-long protection from future infection. The drug is expected be a key tool for India's National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP), which aims to rid the country of VL by 2010, and disease control programs in other VL-endemic countries. The approval of Paromomycin IM Injection is a major milestone in global health, providing a lifelong cure for a deadly parasitic disease.
"With this approval, the Institute for OneWorld Health, with the vital support of our partners, has proven that it is possible to develop new medicines using an entrepreneurial, non-profit model," said OneWorld Health Founder and CEO Victoria G. Hale, Ph.D. "We are pleased that the first drug in our portfolio will be an important public health tool to help the Indian government safely and affordably control VL."
Gland Pharma will make the medicine available at-cost, or approximately $10 per lifetime cure, a significantly lower price than currently approved VL therapies. Since VL afflicts many people in remote villages and regions that lack a strong health care infrastructure, OneWorld Health will initiate a Phase IV pilot access program in Bihar to facilitate the introduction of Paromomycin IM Injection in these settings. To support its work with partners in India, OneWorld Health will open a Liaison Office in New Delhi and a program office in Patna, Bihar.
"We are proud to have partnered with OneWorld Health to help meet the critical need for new treatments for kala-azar," said Dr. Ravi Penmetsa, Managing Director of Gland Pharma Limited. "This partnership is an innovative way for our company to use its expertise and corporate philanthropy to benefit India. With our combined resources, we are confident that we will make Paromomycin IM Injection available in India and save the lives of people afflicted with kala-azar."
The development of Paromomycin IM Injection to fight VL was made possible by a unique collaboration among OneWorld Health, Gland Pharma Limited, the International Dispensary Association (IDA), IDA Solutions, the World Health Organization's Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases (WHO/TDR) and the Government of India. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation provided funding for clinical testing of Paromomycin.
"This is an important milestone in the fight against Visceral Leishmaniasis, and it demonstrates the potential for public-private partnerships to develop new solutions to serious global health problems," said Dr. Regina Rabinovich, Program Director of the Gates Foundation's Infectious Diseases Program.

The clinical trial demonstrated that Paromomycin Injection had comparable safety and efficacy to Amphotericin B, a current hospital-based VL therapy. The results of the clinical study showed that nearly all patients (94.6%) treated with Paromomycin Injection were cured of VL. The most common adverse reaction among patients treated with Paromomycin Injection was mild pain at the injection site. Serious adverse events occurred in 4/500 Paromomycin treated patients (0.8%). In early 2005, OneWorld Health received Orphan Drug Designation from the U.S. FDA and the European Agency for the Evaluation of Medicinal Products (EMEA) for paromomycin to treat VL.

Left untreated, VL is nearly always fatal. VL currently occurs in 62 countries, primarily in the developing world. Of the approximately 500,000 new cases of VL occurring annually, 90% are found in just five countries: India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sudan and Brazil. The most affected state in India is Bihar, but VL is also endemic in Jharkand, West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh.

For NITISH "NALANDA is BIHAR and BIHAR is NALANDA "

What Patna edition of The Times reported , It seems for NITISH KUMAR , "BIHAR is NALANDA and NALANDA is BIHAR " . NALANDA always get benefitted in past being closure to CAPITAL above all Its a TOURIST destination so even in past WORLD BANK funded a lot of projects . But the way , Sri Nitish Kumar is promoting NALANDA it seems tomorrow it will have better facility than PATNA and other backward regions in BIHAR will start demanding RESERVATION in DEVELOPMENT VISION and FUNDs . Its an ALARM for BIHAR .

PATNA: The wheel of development is moving fast in the state, and fastest in Nalanda. A private sugar mill, piped water in villages, new power stations, super highways, hospitals, rural electricity, new colleges... you name it and it's all happening in Nalanda, the home district of CM Nitish Kumar. The remaining 37 districts are in the queue, waiting for the state government's largess to befall them. The worst-affected are Supaul, Madhepura, Araria, Saharsa, Madhubani, Purnia and Jamui. For, most of these districts are flood prone and in dire need of development. That Nalanda is special is an open secret in the corridors of power in Patna. "If a new state-wide scheme is to be implemented, it is an unwritten code that it has to be first implemented in Nalanda," a bureaucrat said. In their bid to please the boss, even cabinet ministers end up focussing more on Nalanda. A politician said, "Nalanda is a pampered district. First it was former Union minister George Fernandes who benefited the district and it got, among other things, an ordnance factory project. Now it is the turn of Nitish." In the last two months alone, the state government has okayed development projects worth Rs 700 crore for Nalanda. On the eve of Independence Day, Nitish himself announced projects worth Rs 500 crore, including Rs 257 crore for a rural electricity project and Rs 130 crore for setting up a milk powder processing plant. A few days ago, the cabinet gave its nod to a private enterprise to set up a sugar complex in the district. The complex, to be set up at a cost of Rs 122.4 crore, will produce sugar, alcohol and even about eight megawatt of electricity. The government has also approved the formation of a municipal corporation at Biharsharif.

Rs 3500 crore plan for PATNA

PATNA: If the city development plan prepared by various government agencies is implemented fully, Patna will join the league of well-planned cities. A development plan worth Rs 3,500 crore has been drawn up to revamp the drainage, sewerage, drinking water, power and roads sector in the state capital. Of this, the Patna Municipal Corporation and Bihar Rajya Jal Parshad have already prepared a detailed project report worth Rs 1,600 crore. PMC commissioner Atul Prasad said the project duration is for seven years. A year has already passed. By the time the required clearances are obtained, this year will end. "So effectively we will be left with five years to implement the project," he said. Prasad said about 50 per cent of the funds will be provided by the Union government under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Modernisation Mission. The remaining 50 per cent will be given by the state government. He said it is high time the old and crumbling sewerage system was upgraded. "Our capacity to treat sewage is not enough. Against a generation of 170 million litres a day (MLD) of sewage, the city's sewage treatment plants have a combined capacity to treat 107 MLD only." All drinking water pumping stations do not work as the water pipes do not have the strength to withstand the pressure generated by these pumps. "We have 96 pumping stations. But at a given time only 82 are operated. If we switch on all of them, the water pipes may burst," he said. So first on the priority list is the revamping of drainage and water systems. A new network of storm water drains is to be laid keeping in mind the increase in population over the next 15 years. Drinking water pipes will also be re-laid. Besides, the city development plan envisages uninterrupted power supply to the water pumping stations so that these are not dependent on the local power networks. Prasad said there is a plan to provide a dedicated and uninterrupted power supply to the pumping stations. Underground cables will be laid so that there is no pilferage from these lines. There is also a provision for constructing roads and relaying them so that they are able to face the vagaries of nature. Prasad said, "All departments need to work in complete co-ordination so that there isn't a situation in which a freshly-laid road is cut open for laying water pipes or even power lines."

Second Ganga Bridge for Patna

Campus placement in PATNA UNIVERSITY

PATNA: It seems lady luck is smiling on Patna University (PU) students these days. While the prospect of campus placement has already brightened with the willingness expressed by several organisations to visit the campus and select the suitable candidates, PU students are also in for some prestigious overseas scholarships. American consul general Henry V Jardine will be visiting Patna University on Thursday with a view to meeting the vice-chancellor and interacting with the students on emerging Indo-US relations. Post-graduate students of PU, especially those studying history and political science, have been invited to interact with the visiting dignitary. PU VC S Ehteshamuddin, when contacted, pointed out that the American consul general would also apprise PU students of various courses available for them in US universities and the scholarships available for them. Fulbright scholarship would also be discussed in detail. Meanwhile, a number of public and private sector undertakings would be visiting PU campus within a month or two for recruiting students. While a two-day campus placement exercise would be held by a reputed Delhi-based organisation at Patna Science College auditorium on September 8 and 9, another undertaking from Bangalore would be visiting PU on September 14 to select suitable candidates as campus ambassadors for Progeon, a subsidiary of the Infosys. PU Employment and Guidance Bureau have taken all the pains for organising campus placements and securing suitable jobs for university students. Different colleges and post-graduate departments of PU have also, of late, launched placement cells in their respective institutions with a view to providing jobs to students.

Mukhiya Speaks : True and Honest IPS officers Changing BIHAR

Who can forget the famous BOBBY murder case in 1983-84 in Coongress era ? He was Gujrat cadre IPS on deputation in BIHAR Sri Kishore Kunal who just dragged the POLITICIAN in People and Media court , Now once again he is doing his job but not as an IPS officer but as a Chairman of BIHAR RELIGIOUS BOARD . Every BIHARI knows the efforts made by KISHORE KUNAL in MAHAVEER TRUST managed many Hospitals including famous CANCER HOSPITAL in PHULWARISHARIF , CHILDREN HOSPITAL in KURJI and many more . recently he organised various temples and MUTT of bihar to regulate thier earning and to divert that EARNINGs in HEALTH SECTOR . He started GYAN NIKETAN a school in West Patna then moving towards health sector , he has become a BRAND .
Now GARIBNATH Temple in Muzaffarpur will earn Rs 1 crore per year and that money will be also diverted to HEALTH SECTOR for common people . Such Formulas has been seen in TIRUPATI TEMPLE and MATA VAISHNAV DEVI but these boards invest thier INCOME in STOCK MARKET or with Government but in BIHAR this BOARD will use this money for common people .
He belongs to very modest family from BARURAJ where his father is still a small farmer and even one can see KISHORE KUNAL at PATNA MAHAVEER TEMPLE .
He is having equal relation with other religious GURUs and one can see how MAHAVEER CANCER HOSPITAL was inaugrated by JAMA-MASJID Shahi IMAM and donation come from every section of society . World fame CANCER Specialist Dr S H Advani is regular visitor to this hospital . While this hospital is well equipped with good Oncologist surgeons trained at UK and TMH . Saluate you KISHORE KUNAL . MAHAVEER TEMPLE TRUST initiated MAHAVEER VATSALYA ( Children Hospital) is unique in BIHAR and third largest SUPER SEPCIALIST hospital for CHILDREN in INDIA .
And present ADG (HQ) ABHYANAND is busy to design a Crime free BIHAR and people have slowly started to see the effects Now fast trials on SUNIL PANDEY / SURAJ BHAN SINGH / ANAND MOHAN SINGH / MUNNA SHUKLA / RAJAN TIWARY etc are under havy scan . Although ABHYANAND sir is under heavy attack from opposition leader like LALU Prasad but he is on MARCH . Special Auxiliary Police concept which is unique in INDIA plus Fast Track TRIALs for local goons and increasing fear of LAW in criminals are his IDEAs which is seen easily in BIHAR . Being a son of ex-DGP bihar Sri JAGTANAND sir , One can see the simple life style of ABHYANAND sir , One can find books of Physics in his drawing rooms , One can talk hours on Newtons principle to him , This all gifted to him by LALU-RABRI government when dozens of IPS officers of a specific caste were shunted for 15 long years in PATNA and here he BENEFITED himself and use his liesure hours to reinvent himslef as a student of PHYSICs , He was University Gold Medalist in M.Sc.(Physics) and joined IPS at the age of 22 only . Now his FACTORY of IIT-JEE is sending 30 students to IITs every year , Once again this FACTORY is made for people who can not send thier hard working students to INDIA fame coaching centres in lack of finance , So here is the solution . Abhyanand sir co teacher Sri Anand Kumar says " You will rarely find as simple as ABHYANAND Sir as an IPS officers with a touch of humanity " .
World always write about ABHYANAND sir as a teacher but being an civil servant he always want to work behind the curtains , One can find his role in fair polls in October- November 2005 when he along with another IAS N K Sinha were team member of K G Rao and designed the complete peacefull and fair POLLs . After the POLL , START NEWs telecasted the role of these officers in BIHAR POLLs .
Intresting , I know many families in BIHAR who are much influenced by these duo Officers and have named thier CHILDREN after them .
Thanking You

Centre for Higher Learning in Bihar - some hope and some caution

It is one of those 'coincidences' that not even one temple of modern learning envisaged by Nehru has found a home in Bihar. The land of Nalanda, Vikramshila and Odantpuri does not have a single IIT, IIM, central university or centrally funded medical institutes. There are no CSIR laboratories. There are no DRDO laboratories. Even the REC (now called NIT) in Bihar is a sleight of hand of the HRD mandarins by renaming a British built institutions – the Bihar College of Engineering. With such a gross historic neglect, one would have assumed Bihar to be the natural choice for the new generation institutions like IIIT and NISc. However, it appears Bihar was not even considered for these as well.

It has been usual to put the blame on the Govt of Bihar for a lot of ills, and much of it quite deservedly so. However, to put the blame on the state govt only is to see only one part of the picture. In the unitary scheme of things in the Union that is Bharat, the resources at the disposal of the central government have been far more. Its ability to dictate policy is also much more. Its ability to influence investment from outside has also been bigger. IITs got built with not a too niggardly a contribution from countries like US and Germany. IIMs received generous help from US and other universities. Unfortunately, Bihar was never on the radar of the decision makers at Delhi.Again, it is no coincidence that when US money was made available in the form of PL 480 grant to a private institution, the result was the hugely successful XLRI at Jamshedpur.

In this context, it is a welcome change to see the Union Minister of State, MA Fatmi, announcing the conversion of Patna Univ into a central Univ and the establishment of an IIT in Bihar. Both Patna Daily and Times of India have reported this news.

However, given the track record of the central govt to go back on its word and its tendency to treat Bihar and Biharis as a bunch of credulous nincompoops, we cannot but be sceptical.

We have the recent and raw wound inflicted by the finance minister P Chimdabaram who promised a special grant of Rs 5,000 crores to Bihar to combat its myriad problems. He made this announcement on the floor of the Parliament a few days within the formation of the UPA govt in 2004. In fact, his announcement so peeved the UP CM Mulayam Singh Yadav and he demanded a similar grant for UP too. However, nothing ever came out of it - not even one rupee. In fact, when an MP from Bihar confronted Chidambaram on this, he tried to wriggle out saying his statement was misunderstood!!!,

Unfortunately, the national press and its "Oye Bihari Brigade", always ready to see the imaginary paan stains at Patna airport or poke fun at Lalu's 'pikdaan' and other such prominent 'news' of 'national' importance, did not deem it fit to highlight this grossly improper conduct on the part of the Teflon hero of propriety. Now the important issue is, what can we, the middle classes from Bihar do to push the case and realise our dream of having institutions of higher learning in Bihar?

I am putting up a few possibilities here:

1. Send letters of fulsome praise to the PM, the HRD Minister and the finance minister congratulating them for their decision to correct a historic wrong. It will show to them the groundswell of public opinion on the topic. Hopefully, it would put some moral pressure on them too.

2. Contact the MPs from Bihar and convey our very strong desire to have these institutions in Bihar. Urge them to have a caucus cutting across party lines. Suave and Pedantic MPs like Ravishanker Prasad, Digvijay Singh, Nathuni Ram could be possible leaders who may be motivated to take up this cause.

3. Have a candle vigil kind of morcha at India Gate, Delhi where the vast numbers of Bihari middle class of Delhi could participate. We have been accused of not doing much for the state - this can be an occasion to show that we care.

4. Invoke RTI to find out if Bihar was considered in the past for setting up institutions of higher learning and then denied the chance or it has been a case of denial by default. If it was considered and then denied, then what were the reasons behind the denial? Highlight those reasons to the Govt of Bihar so that corrective action can be taken by it.

5. Involve the retired Profs and academicians from Bihar / well meaning non Bihar academicians.

6. Have a thank you meeting at SK Memorial Hall or another prominent place at Patna to praise the decision

7. Somehow keep the issue alive in the national press - even if they lampoon the claim in their coverage, it would still help the cause.

There is a lot we can do to achieve our great dream. The apprehension is that if we dont act, the Dilliwalas wont hesitate to make a Lallu of Laluji.
