RELEASE OF GRANTS-IN-AID TO BIHAR

The Ministry of Rural Development has sanctioned Central Grants of Rs.22.50 crore to the State Government of Bihar towards first instalment of funds, out of the Central Share of Rs.4991.240 lakh for tackling 2,892 water quality affected habitation under Revised Sub Mission programme of Accelerated Rural Water Supply Programme (Quality) during 2006-07. The State Government of Bihar has approved seven schemes covering 6,429 habitations with a total oulay of Rs.6991.669 lakh (Rs.4991.241 lakh :-GOI share; Rs.1663.74 lakh:-State share : and Rs.336.688 lakh :-Community Contribution). Any escalation of cost of the project is to be borne by the State Government. States are to delegate powers for management of rural water supply schemes to the Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) and as such operation & maintenance of the completed schemes should be transferred to them.
