Separate technical university to be operational from 2007-08-

With Bihar lagging behind the national average in availability of seats in degree and diploma-level technical courses, the government has decided to set up a separate technical university that will incorporate all state-run and private engineering and medical colleges in the state.State science and technology department sources told PTI today that a proposal to open the technical university, to be known as Aryabhatta Technical University, had been cleared. The bill for this is likely to be brought in during the session of the legislature beginning on December eight. The next academic session will witness the dawn of a new era in technical education as the new university will end many problems related to administration and examinations, and introduce a uniform academic curriculum across the state, the sources said.Stating that examinations would be conducted on time and results declared on schedule, the sources said the technical university will encourage private parties to open new technical colleges and seek affiliation according to conditions laid down by the state government. The departmnent has also directed the Bihar Combined Entrance Competitive Examination Board to hold counselling for selected students within a timeframe so that admissions could be completed on time and sessions held regularly.
