Jehanabad poised for change: DM

JEHANABAD: Jehanabad, which hit the headlines for the sensational Operation Jailbreak on November 13, 2005, is now getting a facelift through several state and central schemes. Jehanabad DM Sanjay Kumar Agrawal said there was considerable change in the overall development, particularly the law and order scenario, in the district during the past two years.

He said the troubled district is poised for more changes for the better in the days to come.

That Jehanabad is changing is evident from the fact that the district currently ranks first in the state so far as providing better health care is concerned, the DM said adding the Bihar School Examination Board has also given it Grade A for conduting BSEB examinations, 2007, fairly.

The DM said that apart from development in the infrastructure sector, health and education are priorities. He said awareness about health and hygiene is fast catching up in Jehanabad, with the district becoming the first in the state by scoring 73.4 points based on health-related indicators set by the Bihar Health Society.

Hospitals which once wore deserted looks are now humming with patients and doctors. The total number of outdoor patients visiting different hospitals in the district has increased from 20,000 in 2005 to 4.85 lakh in 2007, the DM said adding now with the Janani Bal Suraksha Scheme underway in the district, 75 per cent of pregnant women give birth in hospitals. He said not a single polio case has been detected in the district over the past one year and the district is striving hard to achieve the target of total eradication of polio by the end of next year.
