NEW DELHI: To promote and popularise various Indian cuisines, the Union Tourism Ministry is organising food festivals in and outside the country from time to time, Rajya Sabha was informed on Tuesday. The Indian cuisine is also promoted at various international fairs and through publicity materials such as brochures and compact discs, Tourism Minister Ambika Soni said.
Mithilanchal: The Bihar government has identified some places of historical, cultural and tourist importance in Mithilanchal, Soni said, adding the state government is working for the development and promotion of tourism in the region.
Renovation: The task of conservation, preservation, structural repairs and provision for visitors' facilities at protected monuments has been undertaken by the Archaeological Survey of India in accordance with the archaeological norms subject to availability of resources. The Center has also extended financial assistance to state governments under the Infrastructure Development for Destinations scheme and circuits for development of tourism related infrastructure, the minister said. Guest houses: The ministry has introduced a voluntary scheme for the approval of guest houses all over the country with effect from October 7, 2005. All state governments have been advised to encourage the promotion of this category of budget accommodation, she said.
