MUZAFFARPUR: Chief Minister Nitish Kumar made it clear here on Monday that Bihar would have to depend on the electric supply from the central sector for some more time so long state does not develop its own thermal and hydel projects. He, however, said Centre has assured some extra power to the state during the summer. Talking to newsmen after reviewing development schemes of Tirhut division, the CM claimed all the hurdles of takeover of Kanti thermal plant by NTPC have been removed. The issue of mortgaging the plant by LIC has been sorted out with the intervention of the Centre. Bihar is entitled to receive 1,100 MW from central sector but the actual supply is not beyond 900 MW. The crisis had recently deepened so much that only 400 MW was given to the state after a snag in Farakka, Kumar said. Bihar government has cleared all the dues of NTPC and, therefore, there is no reason that Bihar's demand for full load should not be met. Now, the state has demanded 200 MW more from the Centre during the current summer. The Centre has assured some extra power to Bihar, he said. The crisis is not only of Muzaffarpur, but whole of the state, he said. Revival of Kanti unit and expansion of Kahalgaon unit would definitely improve the situation, he hoped. Kumar said that sugar industry would soon flourish in Bihar as a large investment has been assured by private sector for opening new factories. The problem of the revival of the closed sugar factories is being presently solved by a committee under the development commissioner, he said.
