Nitish adopts promotion/demotion approach to motivate GOV Servants

Darbhanga, Apr 17: To bring about a change in the work culture in government departments, the Nitish Kumar government in Bihar has decided to reward officials doing good job with promotion and demote inefficient ones.''There is an urgent need to bring a change in the work culture in the government departments. The NDA government has decided to reward with promotion officials doing a good job and demote those found wanting in discharge of duty,'' Kumar told reporters after a review meeting on progress of welfare projects with officials of Darbhanga commissionery today.Saying that his government was committed to the welfare of the poor, Kumar said that total transparency was maintained in the execution of beneficial schemes for the common man.Under attack from the Opposition on the law and order front, the Bihar CM said that effective steps have been initiated to check crime and positive results have started coming.Elaborating crime control measures, Kumar said that the police was expeditiously producing evidence to the courts in pending cases, resulting in faster conviction of the law breakers. The accused have been awarded punishment within 90 days in a case of dacoity in Gopalganj district recently, the CM said by way of example.Besides, punishment within a short span of time in Arms Act cases have "broken the back of the criminals", he added.He said that a high power committee had been entrusted with the task of preparing a status report on closed sugar mills in the state and based on the recommendation of the committee headed by the Development Commissioner, measures would be taken for their revival.
