Anand Shankar takes charge as DGP

PATNA: Anand Shankar, a 1973-batch IPS officer, joined as the new DGP of Bihar at 8 pm on Friday.

A God-fearing man, Shankar is a Lord Krishna devotee. Sporting a long Vaishnavite-style `tika' on his forehead, Shankar told media persons, "Now there would be no talk. Actions will speak instead." Asked how would he deal with the law and order situation, he said, "With full capacity but within the parameters of law." When reminded of his advice to police personnel to make do with salary and asked how would he monitor the corrupt, the new DGP said he has called a meeting of officers at 9 am on Saturday (a holiday) to discuss the matter. Incidentally, Shankar's predecessor D N Gautam is also a Lord Krishna devotee.
